What many so-called religious people call Hell is my Heaven: the land, the depths of the earth, the fertile, mysteriously luminous darkness way down in Gaia’s center, and in my center and in yours. For are you not a perfect reflection of Gaia? Do you not suffer as deeply as She does—every one of you, whether you are aware of it or not—when limited, short-sighted men deride your depths, and Gaia’s also, as Hell?
This misguided lie of a label has launched so much tragedy and destruction toward the Earth, the sacred land, and toward the Sacred within each one of you, my dear sisters and brothers. Imagine believing that a major part of you is hell, is unrelieved punishment, suffering, and cruel but fitting retribution for something too terrible to mention or even remember. Make no mistake, even today this is a prevalent thought-form having to do with the depths of the sacred land, and it therefore also has to do with the depths of each one of you.
Therefore, one of the most important ways you can worship me and my Mother is to go into your “hell,” gather up all that you find there, and offer it to your own wholeness and to Gaia’s also. Root out this projected, illusory badness, turn it around, and then celebrate it! Celebrate your inner, earthy, ancestral wise woman or wise man! Celebrate the dark fecundity of Gaia’s soul and your own!
It’s not merely that your inner darkness is not “bad,” though of course it is not. Nor do you need to reclaim it as “good” just so you can feel better about yourselves, though you undoubtedly will. The full truth is that meeting and honoring the darkness “down there” in the land—a rich darkness that, paradoxically, is also full of light—is an essential part of affirming Gaia’s inherent wholeness and your own. This divine darkness mediates and generates countless sacred beings, forces, creatures, impulses, ideas, practices, thoughts and feelings that can’t be found anywhere else.
(Please understand that this way of thinking and perceiving that I present to you now does not exempt you from doing necessary work on your own personal flaws and limitations. That obligation remains, but perhaps in a different context than what you had before.)
Banish the very idea that anything having to do with the sacred land, both within you and beneath your feet, is bad, is hell, is irredeemable! This misconceived “hell” does not need to be redeemed by anyone—least of all by the misguided, self-righteous ones who pronounced it Hell to begin with. The deep body of the land, the material and spiritual expression of Nature, of Gaia, is actually the most important source of Blessing, Redemption and Salvation in this world today.
The realm “down” in the land and “down” inside of you is full of light—Earth Light—and also shelters and generates the most fertile darkness. So glorify and praise it! Reveal and reclaim it! Bless it and let yourself be blessed, all of you, all the lands and creatures, all of Gaia’s vast, interwoven green reality, now and always. This is how we will find and participate in the true Heaven and return to the true Garden.
